Installation Instructions:
These files are InstallShield Install programs. Download the desired file above and run the install (exe file). The install should update all necessary files to upgrade to the latest release. After you run the install, go to Help-About in the program and check the dates. They should match the date above.
To install the application, follow the on screen instructions:
-
Determine the drive where you want to install, C:\Program Files\Ariel is the default location for the application. You may choose another path or folder.
-
Uncheck any components that you do not want installed.
-
Once the install finishes, there should be shortcuts in the Start-Programs-Ariel group. A shortcut for Ariel Performance will also be put on your desktop. You may need to restart your PC for the shortcuts to appear.
Operational Notes:
-
The old run files from Ariel 5.x and earlier are not compatible with Ariel 7.5 or greater.
-
If you can not select Cylinders or Frames, the program can not find the Ariel Database (Ariel Databook database). The Performance program uses this database and needs to know where it is located. Run the Performance program. Go to the View Menu, Select File Locations. Enter the location of the Ariel Databook or use the Browse button to find its location. The Ariel Database is Arldata.mdb.
Network Installation:
-
-
When it asks for a path location, set to network Directory or Temp location.
-
Select Programs to install
The DAO 3.51 and Jet Engine are only needed on Client PC if they have an error.
The Databook installs Access 97 Runtime.
-
Finish out install.
This will create shortcuts, Start-Programs-Ariel. Copy the shortcuts needed to every Client Computer, so they can access program from network. Check shortcuts for proper location.
It also creates an Ariel.INI file in the Program Directory. Edit this file to setup global path locations for all clients. Remove or add a ; to each line you want to include or exclude for each client. The Databook path is the most important.
Example
[PATH]
;Run Path = C:\Program Files\Ariel\Data
Databook Path = M:\Ariel\Ariel Info\ArlData.mdb
;AppManual Path = http://iweb.arielcorp.com/ext_data/application_manual/arieldb.htm
;OutlineDwg Path = http://iweb.arielcorp.com/ext_data/cad/outline_drawings/
This will set the databook path location but not the Run Path. If you put the ; back in front of Databook Path, the program will default back to client Databook path stored in registry.
The Run Path is the location of where all there runs are defaulted to open and save.
WARNING:
If the clients gets errors when they try to select Frames or Cylinders, there can be two reasons. The Databook path location in the Ariel.ini or in the program under View-File Locations is incorrect. If the Databook Path location is correct, then the install program will need to be ran on that client. The Microsoft DAO 3.51 Jet Engine must be installed to fix the problem. This is included with the Install.
-
Re-Run the Install on the Client Computer having trouble.
-
Path location does NOT matter.
-
When you get to "Select Components" deselect everything except "DAO with Jet Engine 3.51".
-
Finish out install.
-
Run Program and recheck operation.
