High Discharge Pressure
Applications with high discharge
pressures (greater than 1500 psig) should be reviewed against Pressure
Packing Application Guidelines, Section 6.5 of the Packager's
Standards for special lube or packing requirements. These
guidelines show limitations to the maximum discharge pressure.
Reduced piston speeds, water
cooled packing and increased lube rates are required to lower and
remove the heat generated between the rod and the pressure packing. See
maximum allowable piston speed
for more information.
Combined gas plus inertia loads
must also be calculated to ensure that there is adequate load reversals
at the crosshead pin. Gas
properties must be reviewed for high discharge pressure applications.
See the Ariel Packager's
Standards Section
6 for information on applying the appropriate cylinder lubricant and rates
for high discharge pressure applications.
